Our Charities

 2006 and 2007 - TEXAS EQUUSEARCH

In 2009, HCPA will continue its support of TES. In addition to collecting donations at each of our events, we will also be encouraging volunteering by our members for TES. We hope to have a TES representative present at our luncheons to keep us informed and be available for questions. The Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team was started in August, 2000 with the purpose to provide volunteer horse mounted search and recovery for lost and missing persons. The Team was started in the North Galveston County area because of the high incidence of missing persons in the largely undeveloped area of South Harris and North Galveston Counties. With this in mind, the team's existence and purpose are dedicated to the memory of Laura Miller, a young woman abducted and murdered in North Galveston County in 1984. Laura was the daughter of their director, Tim Miller.

They are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, which is primarily funded by donations from team members and the surrounding communities.

 2006 and 2007 - TEXAS EQUUSEARCH

Their MISSION:
Child Advocates, Inc. mobilizes court appointed volunteers to break the vicious cycle of child abuse. We speak up for abused children who are lost in the system and guide them into safe environments where they can thrive.
Child Advocates, Inc. trains and supports volunteers. These volunteers are assigned to the cases of children who have been victims of life-threatening abuse or neglect and have been placed in protective custody. The trained volunteers contact caseworkers, interview parents, ensure necessary medical care, look out for educational interests and make recommendations in court regarding the permanent placement of the child.

 2006 - TEXAS EQUUSEARCH

Bo's Place began in 1990 as a grief support information-and-referral line. Callers were provided with important free grief resources and support contacts within the Greater Houston Area. In 1995, Bo's Place relocated to a home in Houston's Museum District and expanded its services to fulfill the critical need for a program dedicated to meeting the needs of grieving children. Today, Bo's Place remains Houston's oldest and only ongoing and free-of-charge grief support program focused on helping grieving children heal.

After ten years at its location in the Museum District, Bo's Place moved to a new facility, designed specifically for the needs of the Children and Family Grief Support Program.

Patricia Lind, Bo's Place's development director attended our November luncheon and gave a very moving presentation.  We collected stuffed animals during the last quarter of the year and HCPA purchased paper goods.  We were able to donate seven large trash bags full of new stuffed animals to brighten a child's day.
